Game Set Match Serena!!!
I have to say enough is enough with the venom being spewed toward one of the greatest athletes you will ever see Serena Williams. I won't even go into what's been said about her shape but its insulting that one of the best tennis players ever has to constantly defend her physique, off court interests, and style.
As a man who grew up in late 70s and early 80s I saw some tennis players of color who were making strides thanks to Arthur Ashe and Althea Gibson who each endured all types of hell due to the color of their skin. I am sure both of them would give thanks to those who paved the way for them to even play USTA and WTA events.
What really bothers me is Serena and Venus catch heat for not being the norm whether its where they are from Compton, Ca or their body types or how they stuck by one another when most of the tour players wanted nothing to do with them during their early years on the tour.
Serena has won 36 grand slam titles (Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles) in her career while being a role model to young women in addition to inspiring people of color around the world. Her body shape is beautiful its not the tennis norm so what its hers so why are you so worried about it. She handles herself with the style and grace likened to what tennis etiquette is suppose to be. Her outburst at the US Open a few years ago was not a good look for her but was no different then Connors or McEnroe yet she was vilified.
I will end with this Serena is a winner which should motivate us all to win at what is we do which includes respecting each other no matter color, gender, body type, or sexual orientation.
Serena keep on keeping on!!!

Big Oof Sport Week in Review
What is going in sports this past week we've had two NFL players blow of fingers lighting fireworks for the 4th of July. Then the biggest sports network in the world publishes the medical records of one of the injured players.
A prominent NBA free agent gives a verbal commitment to a team then changes his mind and goes back to his old team. This is a situation where you can take either side but I am on the side of if aren't going to honor your word then tell the man in person. That's just me though and I don't know the whole story.
Baseball heading to the All-Star Break with the a few surprise teams and my Cubbies in the hunt. This could be one of the more interesting years in baseball due to the amount of teams in the hunt for the wild card in the American League.
NBA free agents got all the money and if its being offered yes take it you could play your way out of a contract just as easy as you played into a max deal. Jimmy Butler is the man he bet on himself and cashed in I ain't mad at him at all nor the Bulls got him cheaper now when that new TV deal kicks in the max deals will be crazy.
Chicago Cubs Winning!!
Chicago sports is in full swing this summer thanks to the Cubs they are winning. In Theo we trust has finally started to show results. The Cardinal's are winning the division and yes the Pirates are in second its the Cubbies that are the story.
The second time around the league is tough but if the Cubs still have a wild card spot in August it will do wonders for Chicago baseball. I am not anti-White Sox just pro Cubs!!!
Cubs need starting pitching, another bat, better defense, and no serious injuries. Maddon has been down this road when he was in Tampa Bay so I am not worried about the managers spot.
Kris Bryant is looking like the real deal but we will see in the dog days of August.
Go Cubs!!

I'm Back 2015
Well I didn't know what to do with the Black Chicago Sports blog so I bought the domain name. This will be the test to see if I will blog. So this is the first blog in awhile and I guess I'll start with a few questions and thoughts on Chicago sports.
Bulls- Well now are they really that good? or very inconsistent? we will see in the second round versus the Cavaliers. Will the absence of Kevin Love and JR Smith suspension get the Bulls off to a series lead?
Butler and Rose must play well the turnovers must be kept to a minimum while Noah has to regain that All-Star form. Gasol has to keep the double-double machine running on all cylinders. The bench will be a HUGE factor.
Cubs- The kids are playing well Bryant and Russell are here now there are no more excuses. Will the pitching hold up? bullpen be dependable? The second time around league will be the test for the rookies. Castro and Rizzo staying consistent is the key to a winning record and is Lester going to be the ace you paid for. My beloved Cubbies have a lot of questions but we are starting to get answers..Go CUBS!!
Blackhawks-Are they in 2013 form? Will they score more on power play? Has Crawford shaken off his first round performance? Will we need another Darling rescue? I think the Hawks will be fine and Lord Stanley's cup shall come back to the Windy City for a summer vacation.
White Sox- Is Rocking Robin on the hot seat? Where the bats at? White Sox searching for offense right now but that won't last long. Pitching hasn't been great but the Baltimore series has them off a little bit. White Sox will heat up as the summer heat approaches and make a run in a tough AL Central.
Da Bears- Well Trestman was not the answer and neither is blaming Cutler. Bears made some changes which is good. Will the 3-4 defense come up with turnovers? Is Jay going to let trade rumors get to him? John Fox is a veteran NFL coach just what the doctor ordered he knows how to win and will get the most out of the roster. Cutler is better than most QBs don't be surprised if he rebounds with a big year and dare I say a Packers win or two. Bears will be better than expected.
These are my thoughts and questions for Black Chicago Sports...Chicago Stand Up!!!

Father's Day Memories
Happy Father's Day!!!
As this beautiful Father's Day winds down I just want to share a memory or two aboout my Father Robert L. Edwards.
I have taken a lot of ribbing about being a Chicago Cubs fan growing up on the Southside of Chicago. The reason I am Cubs fan is becuase of my father I remember him watching Cubs game on Channel 9. The cool thing to me was he would have the television on but with the sound down and a radio on top of the big zenith. I remember him watching Saturday baseball on NBC and Monday Night Baseball on ABC his insight I didn't understand at the time. His knowledge of baseball was second to none I was always impressed in his evaluation of talent.
I know sports is a small part of life but for me it is how associate a lot of my memories. I will have to go to a Cubbies game this summer buy a scorecard and give my unfiltered opinion during the game as a tribute to my Father. I remember going to Cubs game with him dress shirt, slacks, hat and big Buick buying me hot dogs. The little things in life are etched into your mind for a lifetime.
Thanks Dad for my love of the Cubs, Baseball, and most of all for always being there for me.

Monday Night Beardown!!!
Wow what a game Bears score on seven possessions almost 500 yards of offense and get a much needed win.
Josh Cool was a maestro under center great throws and cool under pressure. Matt Forte 102 yards on the ground and 73 yards receiving with a TD. Brandon Marshall wow what blocks he made as well as catching some some key third downs he was in full beast mode. The man, the myth, the future Ashlon Jeffery what a TD catch before the half snatching the ball out the air like its mine don't sweat it. Ashlon Jeffery played a great game as did the entire offense.
The defense well they played the pass better than the run made stops when they had to. The defense didn't create any turnovers really didn't have to with the offense running on all cylinders. Pass rush was lukewarm but there when needed.
Cowboys let the weather get to them as game went on and had a few injuries. The Cowboys running game was only highlight of the night for their offense.
Overall great win tied for first now need to win two of last three and the Lions to continue their losing ways.
I predict Bears in playoffs!!!

Bears Rundown 12/1/13
My father once told me to finish what you start well I started
a sports blog so its time to blog. The Bears obviously don’t follow that mantra
with their play the last three weeks. The once Achilles heal the offense is now
the strength of the team. The Monsters of the Midway on defense are no longer
they have more holes than a Chicago Alderman explaining his role in a bribery
scandal.
The issue I have is with the coaching I know Trestman is in
his first year but no excuse he should have a better sense of how to win a game
especially with a dynamic offense. Josh McCown has given you more than enough
in a relief role and should have started the Detroit game in Chicago which was
a must win since you lost to them in Detroit. The riverboat gambler mentality of
the coach is admirable but there is a time and he has gone rogue once to often.
The Vikings game was a great example of when he should’ve rolled the dice more
with Forte running wild and Jeffery catching everything thrown his way today
the coach went conservative when it mattered most. Robbie Gould is usually
solid but why not run one more play in overtime get him closer to kick the
field goal and get out with a much needed win.
The Bears must now win out and hope for some help from other
teams the same game plan as the last two years. This is getting old and the
team is not getting younger so Trestman learn from your mistakes and take a
page from Kenny Roger’s song the Gambler “Know when to hold em and know when to
fold em”.
My prediction Bears 9-7 and at home watching the playoffs.
Hope they prove me wrong.
